President Tshisekedi has agreed to engage in discussions with President Kagame.


President Félix Tshisekedi of DRC has agreed to the principle of a meeting with President Paul Kagame of Rwanda to fix the existing security situation in Eastern DRC.

The possible meeting between the two leaders was announced shortly after President Tshisekedi met his Angolan counterpart Joao Lourenço in Luanda on Tuesday.

Angolan President Joao Lourenço is a mediator appointed by the African Union. Their meeting aimed at analyze the situation prevailing in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo .

The main result of this meeting is that President Tshisekedi accepted the principle of a meeting with President Paul Kagame of Rwanda, said the Minister of External Relations Tete António.
The Republic of Angola, as a mediator, has the responsibility of facilitating the following stages to materialize this meeting,” he added. He was very discreet on the operationalization of this meeting.

“You understand that I will not go into the details of what Angola will do so that this is achieved and to achieve the main objective we all have: the return of a lasting peace in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and in the Congo region in general. Please note that President Kagame did not put any prerequisite for this meeting ”.

The next step will be the meeting in March between Joao Lourenco and President Paul Kagame.

“I will not go into details, but I want to emphasize that we will work with Angola as a mediator, and that this responsibility includes working on the following steps to materialize this meeting. I will not enter into details at this stage.”

This series of meetings follows the work of the Mini-Summit on the security situation in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo launched in Addis Ababa on February 16, 2024 by Joao Lourenço, Angolan president.
